Toddlers and preschoolers feel emotions just as intensely as adults do, but they have far less experience recognising what they are feeling or managing it when it grows overwhelming.

The role of the caregiver is not to prevent strong feelings — that is neither possible nor helpful — but to help children gradually develop the language and skills to recognise what is happening, and to know they are not alone inside it.

Naming What You See

One of the most powerful tools available to caregivers is simple labelling. Saying "It looks like you're feeling frustrated" or "That felt really unfair, didn't it?" gives a child language for an experience they are having but cannot yet describe. Over time, this language becomes internal — and children begin to name their own feelings without prompting.

Co-Regulation Comes Before Self-Regulation

Young children do not regulate their emotions alone. They regulate in the presence of a calm, steady adult. This is called co-regulation, and it is the bridge to self-regulation later. A child who learns that a caregiver stays calm and present during a storm of feeling develops the trust needed to eventually manage those storms on their own.

Phrases That Help — And Phrases That Don't

kinderfinding began as a small studio with a simple idea: that the earliest years of a child's life deserve the same care, attention, and thoughtful design that we give to any other important beginning. This is how that idea grew into a place.

kinderfinding was not founded as a business first. It was founded as a response — to the feeling that early childhood was being treated too often as a race to be won, and too rarely as a season to be lived carefully. We wanted to build the kind of place we would have wanted for our own children: warm, unhurried, and designed with the same attention to detail you would apply to a home.

The studio started with one room, a handful of families, and a commitment to keeping it small enough that every child was known by name. That commitment has not changed as we have grown. Everything else has.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Childhood is not a race. Every step forward deserves dedicated space, patience, and warmth.

We believe that the purpose of early childhood is not to prepare children for the next stage as quickly as possible, but to give them the time and freedom to be fully present in the stage they are in. A two-year-old is not a small four-year-old. A four-year-old is not a small six-year-old. Each age has its own way of thinking, moving, and understanding the world — and our work is to meet children where they are, not where a curriculum says they should be.

This belief shapes everything about the studio. It is why we do not rush children through activities, why we let them return to the same materials again and again, and why we treat repetition as a sign of deepening rather than stagnation.

Slower is better than faster when the goal is genuine understanding.
Depth matters more than breadth in the early years.
Every child develops on their own timeline, and that is not a problem to solve.

HOW CHILDREN LEARN

Children learn best when their senses are engaged, when questions are welcomed, and when failure is reframed as a step toward discovery.

The research on early learning is clear: children do not absorb ideas from instruction the way adults do. They build understanding through hands-on experience, through movement, through trial and error, and through the quiet process of figuring something out for themselves. Our studio is designed around that reality rather than against it.

This means fewer worksheets and more open-ended materials. It means less direct teaching and more careful observation. It means trusting children to follow their own curiosity, and trusting that the adults around them can stay close without taking over.

Sensory engagement precedes abstract understanding.
Questions are welcomed as starting points, not interruptions.
Mistakes are information, not failures.

OUR COMMUNITY

We partner with parents to create a gentle continuum between early studio activities and home life support.

The studio is not a drop-off point. It is a shared space between families and educators, and the learning we do here works best when it continues at home. That is why we communicate regularly with parents about what their child is exploring, what they seem drawn to, and how the small discoveries made in the studio can be supported in ordinary home routines.

Parents are welcome to visit, to observe, and to ask questions. We do not treat the studio as a place where children go to be taught and parents stay outside. We treat it as a place where a small community of families learns together about the children they share.

BOUNDARIES

WHAT kinderfinding IS NOT

Not a school

We are not a formal educational institution and do not follow a national curriculum or issue qualifications. kinderfinding is a studio for early exploration, not a replacement for kindergarten, preschool, or primary school.

Not a therapy provider

We do not provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, or any other clinical service. Where a child has a developmental or therapeutic need, a qualified professional should be involved.

Not a childcare centre

Our sessions are designed as shared adult-and-child experiences. We are not licensed as a full-day childcare facility, and we do not provide drop-off care without a supervising adult present.

Not a placement guarantee

We do not promise or guarantee placement into any specific school, programme, or educational pathway. What we offer is time, attention, and space — the outcomes belong to each child and their family.
